Tvr s3 distributor position 2.9 efi

Hi looking for help, i bought a S3 for restoration , and the distributor was not installed and no markings on body and cylinder head. I have set the engine to 12 degrees btdc and installed the body so as per Haynes manual. However this shows the rotor arm to inline with the centre mark on the distributor rim and inline with the no1 plug lead. The car only just starts and smell s of fuel and as soon as you touch the throttle she stops. The fault code shows incorrect timing. Can i have the distributor on the wrong tooth of the cam so fuel timing out . Any help most welcome

Try moving it a little bit, clockwise or anti-clockwise,

Do this with the engine running ideally until it sounds good.

Do you have a Timing light?

The fact it runs at all shows the timing is not far out.

Verify the timing marks mechanically - don't assume they are correct.

If it will run steadily, measure the actual timing with a timing light.
