You have to look at it. Wherever you are, you need to travel and inspect it, otherwise you might as well burn your money to keep warm!

The advert is terrible. Is the private plate included? That is worth something. The advert says that it is a non-runner. Does that mean it needs a new battery or a full engine rebuild? At the very least it seems to need a new chassis, and it needs painting. A good one which you can just drive with no work to do is being advertised for £18K and hasn't sold, probably because you can buy a more modern Chimaera for less, and a Griffith for not much more.

You have no idea of how much of a money pit this car could be without looking at it. If you cannot go, then pay for a TVR expert to inspect it for you.

If you're wanting it to use and you are going to work on it yourself, then I would say anything under £8k leaves headroom for a quality restoration.

If you're wanting it to sell once you finished and 'get your money back', then the current bids are about it.

I'd love it, but the Wedge is next for me. Would like to see what we can do with the 3.5! After I swap out the water temp sensor on the Tam. Oh, then the dash screen. Plus the third brake light needs renewing. May as well swapp out the rear lights for matching clear. Then the air box .. laugh

Thank you Guys, This is just the start of my search, moved house just before lockdown and home extension just finished with long awaited garage to be completed before Xmas, this just appeared on my radar a bit sooner than I was prepared for, the amount of work is not too much of an issue however lack of openness is. Slightly disturbing is that I have been advised by another interested party local to the vehicle that the owner wouldn't allow a viewing!. The MOT history makes interesting reading, so sadly maybe a bit of a wide berth for this one and keep my eyes open would prefer a V8S.

i meant to the FB stuff. It seems so many users of FB think it's some sort of 'club' that you don't talk about or link to. First rule.......... smile

This is the FB Group, you may have to scroll down a bit to find post about this car, posts slip down the list a bit quicker than they do here wink

Mike has roughly a 75% inclusion rate for mentioning FB and linking to it in his posts. Hardly 'secret' if you're reading the forum. laugh

I've just clicked on Mike's link but I can't find the discussion on FB. That's the fundamental problem with FB, unless you know exactly where to look and how far to keep scrolling back you'll never find anything.

PH is, was and always will the best place for any sort of sensible discussion because each topic is separately documented and properly indexed for future reference.

To answer the question; unless you are going to do all the work your self stay well away from that one. The cost of a respray alone will make your eyes water and the result will break your heart. That car has been left under a cover and damp will have permeated the gelcoat so it will take months and months to dry out properly before risking a respray.

The chassis will need work and given that it's been standing so long it means a body off. Every nut and bolt will be rusty and seized. The brakes will probably be seized and what's happened to the inside of the engine is anybody's guess.

Even at £5k it's no bargain and you'll end up spending far more than it will ever be worth.

So, back to Facebook then - if you want to see a cute picture of next door's cat pop over there smile

A car for an enthusiast but Tvr enthusiasts are getting thinner on the ground.
On the face of it a simple car to repair/ rebuild and might even run well once dried out but a big risk.
If someone had just taken it inside and dried it out for a week with a fan running next to it would improve its basic appearance no end as it looks like it was fairly sound but both the damp and terrible bodywork does suggest a huge expense involved. Sad really because without the body issues a bit of welding and re wiring an enthusiast would have a powerful car for not a lot of money.

Saying that someone bid on it so they must be confident if nothing else thumbup

Well, there are other options:-

  • Late night post-pub bid?
  • Never had a TVR before?
  • Delusional?
  • Super optimist?
  • Stupidity?
Or a combination of them all?
