Discussion
There's a chart on here with P422-0523B - Volkswagen Ash Green.

If you get no joy here it might be worth asking on the S Series Face Book group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/tvrsseries.

Indeed so.
By the way. I just did some online research concerning Volkswagen paint colors. LA5 is indeed their mfr code used in the mid to late '80s. Checking the original color chips for that period, there is no "Ash Green". LA5, as shown in the list, is actually a blue. However, I did find a metallic green very close to mine, LA6V/W1, "Lhasa Green, with a name change to Lhaso Green in 1985 ( same mfr code). I've just ordered some touch up paint for LA6V. We'll see how it goes. A big thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

That sounds like an unusual colour, or should I say 'non standard' colour. TVR sold through agents and had a range of 'stock' colours but buyers could ask for their car to be finished in a special colour. There is the story of a buyer wanting to get the car sprayed to match his lady friends handbag!
As your is an S1 you also have to consider other possibilities. There should be a paint code on the identity panel on the passenger side of the engine bay. However the car may have been resprayed at some time and that colour not recorded. A second issue is that some paints fade or change colour with age, and your car is now c34 years old. Mine is an S1, had spent a fair bit of time outside and was a distinctly different shade of green from one side to the other!
Are you aware that body shop supply companies can use a spectrophotometer to measure the paint colour accurately and then make up an aerosol to match exactly. My local car part suppliers can do it easily for little more than the cost of an ordinary aerosol.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to meet another S1 owner. The history of my car is a bit murky. I know for certain it was originally ordered for a Canadian customer, (S1s were not imported into the US due to the emission standards) and brought across the boarder after the legal time limit expired. Thus the left hand driving setup and the metric speedometer / odometer. It also came with a high end (at that time) stereo that appears to be factory installed with an Alpine tape deck/ radio and a French speaker system. The color was likely a special order as well and is the original, as I can find no evidence of the car having been repainted. Your suggestion to have a local paint shop electronically match the color finally got me off dead center. Today I went to one I had on my "call" list and they scanned the paint with their photometer. The computer generated the paint formula which we compared with the Volkswagen Lhasa Green, LA6V/W1. They were exactly the same, except that it's now a Honda color called "Jade Green". Judging by the history of LA6V, the color has been used by nearly every major auto company on and off since the early 80's under various names. So, I now have a half pint of the stuff to repair a gash which mysteriously appeared in the rear fender after a local run last week. Looks like someone threw a tin can at the car.

Facebook is killing proper forums, I'm witnessing it on another 'old fashioned' motorbike forum I'm on that used to be so active, but "it's easier to post pictures on Faecesbook blah blah"...the mantra of the terminally lazy.
We will all be the poorer when forums disappear along with their archives. The encouragement should be all one-way, from Faecesbook to forums, leaving it for the bored nosey work-shy look-at-me look-at-my-lunch single mothers to waste their days away on.

Like it or not, it's a fact.
Move ! You do more harm than good to this forum. You do your best to empty it from its activity. P.S. which way do you wear your cap?
Great to hear that you got the match done properly Lowflyer. I hope others have noted this. Interesting history and I agree it would have been a special order car. Pictures? As yours will have the K Jetronic system, you may have found it hard to find anyone who understands how it works? I am NOT an expert but I now have quite a bit of experience with them so if you have a problem I may be able to help. DONT touch the injector head mixture setting until you truly understand the system and have ensured any other issues are resolved. Once changed it is very hard to get back to a datum to work from. Incidentally, forget what FefeuS2 says, get onto the FB page (where I am a moderator) and you can PM me direct for help, I may not know the answer but I will try.

STOP IT Fefeu52, and for heavens sake have some respect! The FACT is that most S owners are not on PH, and most who were no longer visit PH. The FACT is that the overwhelming majority DO use FB.
You have a mere 184 posts on PH.
Phillpot has made a massive contribution of 16.725 posts including playing a major part in assembling the archive information on the S. He also contributes on FB almost every day.
I have made 3,191 posts the vast majority on assembling that information, and played a significant part in assembling the information on Alternative Parts. I also contribute to FB almost every day.
Do you think WE wanted the shift to FB? Of course not. But if we are to 'serve' S owners and pass on hard won information than we have to be in touch with FB every day and anything we still do on PH will only be seen by a tiny and diminishing number.
Have some RESPECT and listen to Phillpot, who knows you might even learn something!!
Could you imagine, on the 1st page of each book, a message to say "Don't waste your time reading, go to FB". At the beginning of each cinema showing: "Watch Netflix and stay at home ", at the beginning of each theater play: "Watch the TV, It's free!". On each beam box : "Eat sweet, children prefer"! What's the problem? That's a fact!
Sorry, but I don't have any respect for people who are too stupid to understand where is the problem. PH is an encyclopedia and I can't stay impassive when somebody's burning it...Peacefully... Sheet after sheet. Trust me, when PH will close because of too low activity, waking up will be brutal. All knowledge will be lost in a second. Great job guys... Continue like that!

graymrj, thanks for the offer. I'll keep it in mind. I did have a problem with the idle rpm hunting when I first got the car. Fortunately I was able to get the 280i manual through the TVR Club of North America and the Bosch fuel injection system manual that gave details of the K-Jetronic system. Using these and some online research I figured out the problem and corrected it. It seems a former owner (I'm probably the 5th) attempted to tune it and like so many things he did, did it badly. The photos show my S1 at a British Car Club cruise to a local veterans home.
