S1 Mystery Part?
Discussion
The bonnet sits about .75" above it. The center appears to be filled with some kind of rubber. Only part of it remains. The bolt that mounts it goes through the fiberglass and is secured by, I assume, a nut, up behind the dashboard. I guess it's a bumper because the bonnet center has a tendency to flex on rough roads. Like you, I've never seen one on an S series car.
Well, whatever it was, it's now a bonnet bumper. I attempted to remove it but it wouldn't come out without pulling out the dashboard. I have the feeling this thing was installed at the factory. And I was wrong. The base does appear to be sealed to the body. It works very well in stopping the bonnet rear from vibrating when on the road.
