There is probably a simple answer to this so I apologise firstly for my ignorance. In the pictures you posted, your speedo reads 70mph and your tach. just under 3000 rpm.obviously you were not driving when you took them as the other gauges are not reading anything.(shrewd observation)
How did you get them both back to zero??
The reason I am asking is that my tach. is stuck on 2000rpm and wont move. Iv'e just adjusted the tappets and disconnected the battery to get at things, when I put everything back together I noticed for the first time (in months) that the tach. had dropped to zero then crept to around 2000 again and stuck there!!
Any ideas ?

The speedo and tacho are driven by servo motors I think, so when the ignition is switched off and the power to the servos is cut, the weight of the needle pulls the needle down the gauge! Simple as that really. When I turn the ignition back on, the needles all return to zero. It has always done this since I bought the car 6 years ago.

Jas.

P.S. I suspect that one of your connectors under the dashboard is a bit dodgy if yours is stuck. You will find them just to the left of the steering column. (Usually).

Jas - thanks for that info. I will look at the connections tomorrow.
Out of interest, an earlier thread mentioned that when a speedo was being removed from the dash he found that the cable was sealed into the back of the gauge and presumably the whole thing, cable and all had to be removed - was yours like this ?. If the speedo is electronic presumably its only a wire (cable).
I want to remove mine as the odometer has stopped as well!!
Thanks
John

Mine don't have 'cables' in the traditional sense as you would expect from a mechanical gauge. My gauges, being electronic, have 3 wires each going into them, live, earth, and signal. There is about 8-10 inches of wire coming from the back of each gauge to a multiplug.

I can confirm Paceracing's comment that cable terminates in a multiplug - the trouble is that you need to be aware of this as it may not be visible when removing the speedo - this was the problem I had.

Bloody fast sofa..

Should also mention that Jas and his misses (who's name currently escapes me!) are both cracking people and I'd like to thank them for their kind hospitality the other night.

VERY much looking forward to seeing the S2 on the road Jas (when it's finished)...
