V8S - reversing light comes on in 4th gear!
Discussion
Hi
I have a V8S. The reversing light comes on in both reverse gear (yay!) and 4th gear (nay).
Last year I replaced the gear selector bushes so I'm familiar with this area.
Obviously I've found the switch that operates the reversing light. I've adjusted it as carefully as I can, but there is no position where I get just reverse gear operating the switch - the switch is either always off, or operates in both reverse and 4th gears.
Is there anything else I could adjust? Apart from over tightening the front mounting bolts on the selector housing and crushing the new bushes, I'm stumped.
Cheers
Ian

I'm not sure how the switch can possibly be being moved by the gear lever in anything other than reverse or 1st/2nd if it's in too far?
There's definitely bugger all space in there though so it's probably pretty easy to have mashed the wires into somewhere they shouldn't be, though I'd expect that to cause it to be also on in 2nd or 3rd depending on where the broken wire is caught

Hi All
I have resolved the issue!
The solution was as simple as tightening the front mounting bushes until the inner metal sleeves are tight between the gearbox and the selector housing
In this photo, the switch should be operated by the nodule highlighted with the yellow arrow. In fourth gear, the selector shaft is pushed further into the gearbox, and the cup&ball foul the switch if the selector housing is not aligned correctly
Cheers
