Decided to 'have a prod around' in the more desirable rust attracting areas, crunch, ooops, crunch :yikes:

Time to strip every morsel of underseal / red paint I can to see what exactly lurked under there. As I went further in, the worse it got.

However...:bounce: no holes, it looks absolutely awful, but it's solid, even tested with mot hammer with some force, with an oaf behind it. :D

It will be treated to a full bare metal grind, and a bath of red oxide.... phew. Here are some pics. :D

Not unique for the lower wishbone to get like that IMHE , try applying some rust converter before the paint. I used 'krust' on mine last year, turns the metal black and forms a carbon like skin over it.
TBH mines still black as I haven't put the paint on it yet , however it is the same as when I stripped it nearly a year ago .
I think you'd be surprised that all, except the concourse, TVR's get like that quiet quickly once over say 6 years old.

glad to hear there is no holes. To be honest, doesnt look disimilar from many S chassis that I have seen. A bit of early graft and POR15, Hammerite and she'll be up there with the best of them mate

spooky - could be a replica of my chassis as well! (before I POR'd it this winter). Funny how it starts with "I'll just peel off this loose bit of flaking paint...oops" and ends with hours of scraping, wire-brushing, poking and praying! Worst bit on mine was the fuel tank cradle - hope the MOTman doesn't tap too hard there!

I have scraped and coated mine each winter and have applied kurerust each time. As suggested, it turns black as it kills the rust and dries as a good primer. You can then overcoat with POR, Hammerite or whatever.

Mine seems to be staying on good condition with this.

I would also recomend making some deflectors to stop your front outriggers getting shotblasted with water and stones from the tyres. A simple fix but well worth the effort.

It was all waxoyled and looked fine winter before last.. I've got the POR15 and a new unopened 5 litre can of waxoyl at home; she was due to have a week off to be put on ramps to get the rest of the front end done before that twit hit me and bust the nose. Plan was to wait until the last of the winter salt had been washed off the roads then sort it..

Folks, sort your chassis out.. A lot of the surface rust you see there will be the result of the car standing for 4 of 5 months.. If you lay the car up fro winter, make sure its well looked after so you don't find any unpleasant surprises in the spring..
