Hello everyone, new member here.I have owned my V8S for about a year and a bit now and use it for normal use on typically poorly maintained roads. It came with Bridgestone Turanza 205/60/15 (wrong tyres) fitted.Having read previous posts with great interest, I decided to fit ZR rated so2's with 55 profile. The car does handle better, but at a cost. With the correct tyre pressures the ride is very hard and is rattling the car to bits.I am contemplating going back to 60 profile, but the only ZR rated tyres I have found so far are Pirelli P6000's.Has anybody had any experiance of these tyres,or know of any others ZR rated in a 60 profile???
Thanks.

Granty,

I've been using Pirelli P7000's on my Celica for just over a year, and they appear very good. Lateral and wet grip is superb, but not a patch on the S02's I once had.

Only reason I didn't stick to the S02's was the fact they went off after a few thousand miles, probably due to the reasonable power to the front wheels.

However a rear-wheel drive V8 converible beastie is a whole different matter...

Try dropping the pressures a bit. The other thing is that some guages can be wildly out.

I've recently changed all 4 of mine and have stuck to the original RE71 (205/60/15 ZR's) profile tyres.

It was difficult to get 4 at once so had to fit them in pairs, the second pair being done last month.

Bridgestone have just done a production run on RE71's so you should be able to source some fairly quickly at the moment, with a nice 02 year stamp, so don't settle for old stock .

I'd like to think they (Bridgestone UK) made more because I was asking . They did however ask what car they were for via my tyre dealer and that was before they did the production run, so there may be something in it, i.e. looking over their shoulder's at Toyo maybe?

They also said that the new ones were same design (obvious really as they wouldn't be RE71's ) but of a slightly different compound, not I've notice as they squeal like all Tiv tyres should .

Same as Harry,

just stuck on 4 new RE 71's. No problem in getting them on 24 hour delivery. £75 per corner plus the dreaded VAT!

60 profile tyres have a nominal 123mm wall height whilst for the 55s it is 112mm; a difference of 11mm ( or 3/8" ). You are not likely to notice much difference in ride or a reduction in rattling by changing back to 60 profiles although the extra exhaust clearance may be welcome. The springs are much more likely to be the cause of your problems and a set of springs is cheaper than a set of tyres.

Thanks for the comments everybody. I have never found the exhaust clearance an issue with the way the V8S exhaust is slung so close to the chasis,(never hit any of the speed bumps going into work). Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought springs go softer with age and my car has only done 34K,is original and feels very tought.I think I might try my local independant dealer (Buckley Tyres), and see what price they can do some RE71's for.
Where did you get yours from Ruby/Harry?
Anybody want four new SO2 Pole Positions???

Got mine from a local tyre place down here on the south coast, £75 per corner all in. If grip and handling are what you are after the latest SO3's have a good press, in 55 profile though, and are the latest tyre from bridgestone so are probably superior to the RE71's.
Personally I prefer the RE71 60 profile as they fill the wheel arches, if you know what I mean.
As you have said grounding is not normally a problem for V8S's so the choice is yours, I would have thought your local could arrange for either, SO3's ar nearer £90 a corner.
Failing that www.buyatyre.com supply can supply RE71's at £78 a tyre I'm not sure if that is all in though, but they will fit at home or at a track which compensates for the price.

I think you might end up regretting that. I found the S02pp had significantly better grip and feedback than the old RE71, and wasn't noticeably harsher or less comfortable. In fact it's a relatively flexible tyre that is probably better than average. If the ride is worse now, I'd check the pressures carefully. If they're higher than say 24 PSI consider dropping them a little and see if that makes a difference. Also, knackered dampers and bushes can ruin the ride quality. Finally, check the front camber isn't too high.

Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

Most tyre dealers should be able to source the RE 71's,
I called three with quotes from £75 to £85 each + VAT.
Got mine from Tithe Farm Tyres in South Harrow, very helpful chap there called Gary.

When I phoned to see if they had them in stock, his first question was 'are they for a TVR?'

Stick (literally!) with the original profile IMHO

Good luck.

I have ordered RE71's from Buckley @ £86 each inc vat fitted. The SO2's have only done a couple of hundred miles, they will be coming off car early next week, I was thinking about £65 each. Please e-mail me if you are interested.

I have had the RE71's fitted and it has made the car a pleasure to drive on normal 'A' roads. It is a softer ride, with less road noise and doesn't pull on the steering.
(is that what you call tramlining?).
The lesson I have learnt is to apply the right tyre for the right application. The SO2PP is probably a superior tyre in most ways, but that doesn't equate to it being the right tyre for me.
I have placed the SO2PP's in the classified section if anybody is interested.
Thanks again for everybodys comments
