This has just been posted on our FB site as well. When a proposal is agreed we will reactivate the FB S Club Heaven site, for that purpose only.

S CLUB HEAVEN 2022 apologies for some delay on putting this before you. I am going to put forward an OPTION for 2022. Other members may have better ideas. Let’s get that information and see if we can get something agreed and in our, and the TVRCC, calendar quickly?
A POSSIBLE OPTION; I am willing to lead this in 2022 provided that gives time for a younger member to take over for 2023!! That is assuming I will still be able to drive the S to the 2022 event!! I will need help in planning and on the day
What I am proposing does involve a slight departure as it would be closer to the end of season. That has advantages and disadvantages. It would also be intended to be a more ‘family friendly’ event to make it easier for owners to bring partners if they wish.
The location would be Sywell Aerodrome, East Midlands, just NE of Northampton. The location is pretty easy to access from the M1, from north or south, and from the M6. (It is a fair way for me but an easy route all M way or dual carriageway except for the last 5 miles)
The date would be September 24/25 2022.
Event is the Sywell Classic (Pistons and Props) see http://www.sywellclassic.co.uk/. I have been to it most years since it started about 7 years ago and enjoyed it, usually with a partner. At least 4 other S owners know the event.
The event has a variety of attractions;
The main building is a preserved Art Deco aerodrome built in 1928 and an attraction in itself, with drinks in the period lounge or on the lawn!
There is slight effort at a vintage theme but it has not become a true vintage event and, for example, few people dress up.
All sorts of racing vehicles are sprinted on the airstrip (from vintage 50cc motorcycles through full race cars to American dragsters)
There is an air show every day and usually the Battle of Britain memorial flight
Large numbers of vehicle club stands (East Midlands TVR always have a presence)
A ‘village’ of stalls including car boot, a vintage market and a variety of food vendors
Entertainment, and some dancing, in large marquees/hanger
Saturday evening entertainment/bar/dancing in a large converted wartime hanger
A small but excellent RAF museum on site.
The organisers provide a good temporary campsite immediately opposite the airfield, with good quality trailer toilets and showers. Site is available from Friday afternoon to early Monday morning if needed. So can be one, two or three nights. We are into autumn weather but the pattern of weather that weekend is good (only one wet day in 10 when I have been!). The site is OK in wet weather.
A big advantage however is that there are 5 low cost hotels within 6 miles. The Aviator is on site, Premier Inns 4.5ml and 5.9ml, Ibis 3.4ml, Travelodge 3ml and a number of other smaller hotels.
There appear to be a number of good options for a group meal within a short drive, but I haven’t checked details yet.
There is quite an area of countryside to the N and NW of Sywell, towards Market Harborough and Leicester which appears to have potential for a drive but I do not know it that well. We do have a couple of active members in that area who should be able to advise (Gary Mahon, George Haydon) both of whom have been to Sywell. I would like to rely on Mick Millane to pursue this.
I would not want to organise a raffle but plenty of time for someone to step in on that.
There would be plenty of time to organise Sywell themed trophies and to upgrade the Memorial Trophy. The TVRCC have kept the templates from this years certificates.
Ticket for the weekend is £35 a head in 2022 (£20 for a day). Campsite for 3 nights is £40. Hotel costs vary.
I have spoken to the East Mid RO who was very encouraging and happy for his region to cooperate. I think it should be possible to get a TVR gazebo at that notice.
I have spoken to Live Promotions who organise the event and they would be happy to have us there and treat us as a ‘showcase’ group with a designated area.
I have spoken to the TVRCC, it doesn’t clash with any planned members events but will clash with the TVRCC AGM, that would affect only a very few S owners.
This is the weekend after Goodwood Revival so that doesn’t clash (a key issue for me at least!!)

Thanks for that encouragement, appreciated.

I will wait a few days to see if there are any adverse comments, or indeed any other offers. If not I will then confirm with the TVRCC, SPRINT, RO and the event organisers and feed back.

Sounds like a great plan, even easily doable for just a day from many parts of the country. The Art Deco building looks fabulous, sounds like an excellent weekend.

Oliver.

Hi

I would think this route is a little short - would probably look at approx 1hr / 50 miles (but have this as a back-up)
Would also want a reasonable pub on the route?

MONTHLY REMINDER; S CLUB HEAVEN 2022. 24/25th SEPTEMBER.

Event is a Sywell Aerodrome as part of Sywell Classic (Pistons and Props). Full details are now posted also on the S Club Heaven FB site. *
Now included in the list of official TVR events and published in Sprint.

I suggest you think about booking reasonably early if you want camping or hotel space. Sounds a long time away but there is evidence that, post lockdown, people are anxious to be back doing things and bookings are already starting.
It would help if people who are planning to go put there name on the SCH site or on here, the earlier I get names the easier it will be for me to work with the organisers on space requirements. Thanks you.

I've penciled this in. I am going on the Sunday as working on the Saturday.

I`m a Northampton local and have been to this event a few times.

It really is an excellent weekend. Lots to do and see.

A fantastic venue to meet up.

Anyone else who would care to add their name now, all helps me!

I do NOT yet have the ebooking details needed for each car to get in for £5 but dont worry, we have 40 places booked.
I would strongly advise that you do book hotel accommodation if you need it. There has been a good response to this event.
If you are intending to camp please bit patient for a little longer as that will be sorted with the ebooking of you and your car. (If you are intending to camp it would help if you let me know and I will contact the event organisers with approx number to try to ensure we can camp together)
