Any thoughts on who provides the best cover for S's, as it appears that the RAC want an extra £90 for European cover on cars 11 years or older.

Requirements are:

* Home Start
* Rescue
* European Cover (for Le Mans etc.)
* Track Day Recovery

I'm with the AA after I saw the service they provided on my girlfriend's car. We had an airlock and it was about to overheat, and the chap was prompt, knew exactly what needed doing and had all the kit to sort it. Contrast that with a certain company whose name is the opposite of Red Flag. They turned up to a different breakdown, (same girlfriend, different car) had no interest in anything other towing the car to a garage and b@ggering off.

Guess where my custom went

After the 1 star a friend got when his car broke down in Holland I’d say go with the RAC, I’m going to change at the end of the year as the other major breakdown company (beginning in A ending in A) were useless!

Decided to go with the AA based on the fact they explcitly mention that they will pick up from track days, while RAC won't touch anything Motorsport or Track oriented or anything that is off the public highway.

They also offer 72 hours european cover in the Option 400 package, which can be extended as required, as well as a monthly direct debit scheme.

As cover is based on the member, rather than a vehicle, so rather handy when your mate breaks down..

European cover does carry a surcharge for cars over 11 years old unfortunately, but Direct Line penalised the standard policy very highly on that basis too.

I'm with Britannia as I know all of the local firms they use pretty well from the Beetle days Cheap and Cheerful..

they're all as bad as each other..

I've been with Green Flag for ages, and had their EU cover every year for a pittance. This year it was £29 just to take the Primula to Folembray for the weekend.

You'll not get track cover from any of them.. if you kill the car on the track, your best hope is to be trailered to a suitable road-side location by a benevolent track compatriot. (Of course this doesn't apply on the Nurburgring )

I've always been with the AA - were particularly helpful when I had a Fiat X19 which was horribly unreliable. However, for Euro cover it isn't the AA who will turn up but local Monsieur Spanner - probably the same guy for all the companies.

So last time I didn't pay the extra and went with Europ Assistance - cheap and only charge extra for cars over 15yrs. Thankfully didn't need to call them so can't vouch for the quality of service..
