Please forgive me - I've not looked at this at all because it first happened last night and the office has taken priority today :-(

The back of the drivers seat has started slipping when I accelerate hard. The seat itself does not move on the runners. I think it's a standard seat with the standard lever that you pull to adjust the rake. Before I get into it, is it a simple job to get into the mechanism? Is it possible to "tighten" it? Or is it just worn-out and needs replacing?

Thanks

Ian

It sounds like the teeth on the ratchet have worn but check there's noting stuck on the mechanism which is preventing it engaging properly.
If you slide the seat fully forward you might be able to see the ratchet mechanism.

I had that with a daily driver a good few years ago when on a Euro tour. As a Temp (perm) fix I drilled through the mechanism and fitted a nut and bolt. Meant the back was fixed and could not be adjusted.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies. I finally had time this weekend in the daylight and got onto this...

It just needs cleaning up - the release leaver doesn't return under it's own spring and you can't feel when the teeth have engaged, hence the risk of slipping. I adjusted the seat back, held the release leaver down and wiggled the seat back until I felt the teeth engage. I've given the seat back a good wallop and had a cruise around Salisbury, and so far no slippage.

Cheers

Ian
