Engine Temperature Sensor - Black or Grey?

Having borrowed a Sun ECU tester to try and diagnose why the emissions have shot up it reported code 13 - engine coolant temperature sensor.

I couldn't get the original Ford part number F2AF-12A648-AA so settled for the Intermotor 55507

The one I took off was black but the Intermotor is grey - is there a difference? - is one 'right' and the other 'wrong'?

The connector is identical in both cases.

No difference, just different manufacturers using different plastic
