New battery, press boot release button, relay closes and solenoid at the back chatters.
Seem to remember that removing a certain light gives access to a release cable but I cannot find one in that little hole.
Any other ideas before I start drinking early in the morning. I was planning to finalise everything for the German MOT (rear light earthing problem).
Oh and has anyone a photo of the boot open showing where everything is?

Have you tried pressing down on the boot lid (above the catch) while someone presses the switch button?

hopefully that works, once open it's a good idea to run a release cable into the void behind the B post rather than where the emergency cable should be wink

Thanks phillpot.. So what I thought was a black cable bundled with the others for the rear light cluster really was the thing to pull. I've put some coloured tape round it now.

Sooo...it worked with a good yank.

Anyhow I was confronted with 7-8 centimeters of water which has been sitting there for a number of years undisturbed...
Everything is corroded including the radio front which was lying in there and the boot release mechanism.
One job has now expanded into many. Oh well.

The carpets came off the panels quite easily without tearing to my surprise. Even more surprising they survived the washing machine without any problems.
What is the recommended adhesive to put them back which will also be easy to remove if necessary in the future?

This stuff sticks well but I think anything that does a good job of sticking is not going to be easy to un-stick!

Hi Paul - the water in the bottom of the boot probably got in there through the holes where the drain tubes go through the channel where the lip of the boot lip sits.

Exactly right! Totally gunged up.
So tomorrow I start on the jobs that I originally planned to do. Anyhow I found a cheap Chinese replacement solenoid on Amazon that looks identical. Fortunately I'm in no hurry as the quoted delivery time is 3 weeks.
As I go through the checklist I might be back here soon asking more questions...but fortunately I enjoy fiddling with cars.

Your best bet is to remove the original drain tubes and make new ones from 15mm copper pipe. Flare over one end and glass fibre them in to the channel...

then fit new plastic tubes...

Well tonight I finally, yes that's what my wife said, got round to looking at putting the mats back in the boot. Well, they've had the best part of 2 months to dry out!
And being totally un-organised I forgot to document where they all went probably because I was so shocked at the amount of water in there.

Well the larger ones I can work out but the smaller ones...
Has anybody documented/photographed how they should fit? Or is it really easy and I am just tired and stupid!

The water in boot saga is nearly finished. Those 30 year old carpets washed up nicely.

I only have to refit the antenna etc. And while doing it this lovely piece of Xmas tinsel fell off.

Anyone know what it's called and where to find a replacement please?

I wouldn't bother replacing but if you really want to search Ebay for lightweight expanded alluminium mesh.

Just be careful how you word your search wink

That looks like the ground plane for a radio aerial. If you use the radio and have a boot mounted arial then it would be worth replacing it and connecting it to the aerial ground. Otherwise, congratulate yourself on saving the weight.

Thanks for the replies. I just remembered that I have some light stainless steel mesh in the cellar that I bought for replacing the kettle filter! That should do the job. I think that I had to buy a square meter just for 5 x 7 cm...

And on that note Anorexia has been amusing the neighbours, the Postie and Amazon drivers the last few days. The devil makes work for idle hands...

Now I must get back to working on the TVR!
