Converting rear drums to discs
Discussion
My S2 had an MoT advisory recently on "fluctuating and binding"" rear drum brakes recently, and the technician thought it may need new parts. I've been considering a conversion to rear discs for a while, so maybe this is the time to do it. But X-Works told me that the only kit they used in the past proved to be poor quality, and one of the mounts quickly broke.
Has anyone done this conversion, and how were the results? Is there a good quality conversion kit available, and if so, is the improvement worth the time and cost, compared with renewing the old drum brakes? I have no technical skills and would need to pay for the work.

If you are going to pay someone I would strongly advise you get the existing drum brakes serviced/repaired. They are more than adequate for road use, discs just "look cool"
Going for disc brakes is not going to be cheap once you've sourced the parts and paid someone to fit them.
There are several old posts on the subject.
Thanks. Looking cool is irrelevant, because I have a full set of the rubber brake-dust shields which cover everything. It's more a case of whether it is worth paying for parts & labour to renew the less efficient drums, or would that money be better spent if put towards an improved system.
I totally agree with phillpot on this. You really don't need discs on the rear as long as they are working correctly. If they aren't, as you alluded to and you are not willing/capable of replacing or refurbishing what's required just get someone to do it for you. This will be your cheapest option.
Naturally I never take my own advice and did mine as part of a body off restoration!
It would be much harder to do with the body on because of access to the routing of the new handbrake cable you will also need. I wouldn't have bothered had I not already sourced all the required parts over many years.
