My son is thinking of looking at this with a view to buy, which means I’m involved and will to blame for any problems.

Would anyone have any information on this specific car or any general things we should be looking out for.

Thanks in advance , John.

I don't know the car, which surprises me as I live 3 miles outside Newark.
I can have a look at it for you if you wish but am no mechanic so cannot give an expert opinion.

Personally I would go for a later car with the 2.9 EFI engine. that 2.8 is fine when it's working but the injection system can be troublesome to fix and parts are getting rare which equals expensive.

Generally all the same rules as any other TVR, Chassis, chassis and chassis wink

Thank you for your generous offer, but I think I’ve been roped into an early Sunday start to look see, despite it being the Belgian GP.

I’ll let you know how we got on at Cadwell if your going this year?

I don’t think it’s been with the current owner long which might be why you’ve not seen it about.

Hopefully someone may know something about it.

Cheers, i think it’s a case of what’s available at a reasonable price, not my call.

I agree with Phillipot the 2.9 EFI is bullet proof whereas the 2.8, even with low mileage, has HGF troubles because of the siamese exhaust ports. The K-jetronic fuel management is a b**sh*t coming from another age, hard to understand, hard to maintain, hard to find specific components. And S1 has tight doors. For me, S2 are the best.

I will be at Cadwell, rude not to be when I only live 45 miles from the circuit.
See you there - mine is the two tone purple/turquoise Chimaera.

the chassis and out riggers which I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were in good condition with minimal surface rust.

No but I reckon you'll be the one who gets the "Dad, help my car won't start" laugh

Luckily he’s competent, I’m now the one who pesters him with troubles, in fact yesterday he chased and sorted a misfire on the M for me.

There’s a good few S owners camping/displaying at Outlon Park this weekend. Why not Bob in there, you’ll get tons of practice advice.

Yes, we were going to the Gold Cup this weekend and it would have been useful to speak to owners, unfortunately family commitments curtailed it.

Don’t forget to build in the “O S**t” fund to your budget. Standard with most TVR purchases as there will be something that needs rectifying. Don’t let this put you off though, just good practice with any classic vehicle.
