Door window felt slides exchange
Discussion
I've just done mine (1990 S3).
This is what I did...
Window glass fully up.
Rip out old rubber runner from rear track, from within the door.
Rip out front rubber runner, starting at the bottom, inside the door. You may need to cut it as close as you can up under the 1/4 light.
Send the window glass down to the bottom of the door... Be careful, as it will rattle its way down.
Then rip out the top of the front (1)4light).
So now both tracks are void of rubber.
Run the window back to the top.
Feed in the front new rubber up the track from within the door, hopefully a bit will show at the 1/4light.
Roll the window down a bit, get your fingers around the bit of rubber sticking up. Then wriggle like hell, but carefully !! At the same time run the window switch up/down a bit so that it helps the rubber come up.
Once you have enough top to bottom, insert properly and cut to length.
Now send the window to the top.
And do the (slightly easier) rear new rubber using the same principle as the front.
Cut to length and insert properly.
Oh, I put some dabs of glue at various points between track and rubber to stop it wriggling down the track with use.
It wasn't easy, but the second side was easier than the first !

Yes, there is a metal bracket attached to the bottom of the glass and then two bolts and possibly some spacers attach that to the lift mechanism.
It's not quite that simple, from memory I think the 'quarterlight' can stay in place but to get some "jiggle room" you also need to detach the rear guide channel. Self tapper at the top and two M6 roofing bolts through the bottom of the door.
