I was out with a mate on Thursday night taking advantage of the good weather and enjoying a late evening hoon when my headlights packed up. The sidelights work as does the full beam but the main beam cuts in and out. It is sensitive to bumps in the road so I assume it's a connection problems somewhere. I'll check it all this evening but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if so what the solution was?
Had the same. Dismantle earth on chassis below windscreen washer bottle by front left wheel arch,clean up and slap on loads of vasaline.Reassemble. Should be fixed.
If not,its probably a worn contact on the swith itself.
That's from Fiesta or Escort and easy/cheap enough to replace the switch unit complete.
Also check and rebind connectors inside front wings back from headlamps to chassis,as said, they get all the crap hurled up on them.

Well, thanks for all the input but the problem turned out to be [numptymode] a loose fuse 
[/numptymode]. I guess I should have tried this forst before expecing the worst! Inspection did reveal a veritable jungle of wiring and connectors that look a little questionable so a bit of cleaning and refitting is needed.
I'll add the job to the (ever growing) list.
