Starter Motor Part Number
Discussion
Problems seem to keep coming at the moment.
The hot weather is making the problem with the starter motor on the S3 much worse. ie: It won't start.
Earths and power cables from the battery have all been replaced - though the battery itself has not. Still the same problem.
So I think it's time to get a reconditioned starter motor. And this time I'm going to try to do it myself - get it up on some wheel ramps - get the socket set etc etc ...
So - does anyone know the part number for a recon Ford part - does anyone have experience of getting them from a motor factors - like do they work ?
PS: Posting the Q about the part number as the forum search facility has died (Ted). I'm sure it must be in the history somewhere.
Thanks,
WG

Hi
Don't know the part number but I just took mine in to a re-con place and they matched it off the shelf. It's the standard 2.9 V6 one I believe.

Maybe that's the thing to do. I'm told it's not too tricky to get it off the bottom of the car (need a socket extension but that's about it) - did you trade your dead one in ?
Thanks,

Yeah.
Getting it off is not too tricky, there is actually room to swing a spanner!
Two bolts hold the starter motor to the gearbox and then two nuts for the wiring. Just be careful if you are underneath because it's pretty heavy and you don't want it dropping on your face.
Ouch
! Thanks for that advice
Just having trouble buying car ramps at the moment to get under it. Unbelievably my local Halfrauds don't sell them ! Does that shop actually sell anything car related anymore
?
I am a moron !! Why did I think that car ramps were a good idea when I knew the clearance at the front is next to nowt !! Doh ! Back to the shops to get some axle stands instead. Wish I'd read these threads first ...
