My S1 is showing it's age, still driveable but with a long list of niggles. So I decided it needed a proper restoration rather than piecemeal bits and am taking the plunge. I'll do the whole body-off job. So far I've done a few odds and ends that didn't require major dismantling - replaced the O/S window mechanism, swapped the broken Sherpa lenses for clear Isuzu TF ones, and fitted new headlamps with 'angel eye' sidelights and stainless rims. I'm now heading towards the bigger stuff like the wiring and the body lift.
So I'll probably be asking quite a few questions of the panel of experts on here in the coming months. smile I'll start with two:

I spent yesterday trying to remove the driver's door without success. I found the particularly helpful thread at https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... so now I understand how the hinge is built. When trying to undo the main bolt, it turns stiffly and smoothly but doesn't seem to move vertically i.e. come out. The door still opens and closes fine and without play so I believe the bobbins are still seated correctly in the sill and wing. I can only think that the threaded part of the bolt and/or bobbin has corroded and it's just turning without the thread having an effect. The same is happening on top and bottom hinges, I've not tried the passenger door yet.
Q.1) Has anyone else had that and if so how did you get the bolt out?

The door lock barrels are both worn out so I want to replace them. I understand that they're Capri/Cortina from late 70s and early 80s, but working pairs of those with a key seem to be rarer than Sherpa indicators. Most alternatives seem to be designed to fit onto the door panel, I'd much prefer to fit it in the existing position within the handle.
Q.2) Has anyone swapped to a different lock barrel (or found a source of the originals), if so can you give details? I don't have central locking.

This is the 'Before' photo. Maybe in a couple of years I'll be able to an 'After'.
