Out of interest, what is the preferred type of washer for the Oil Sump Plug - metal or nylon?

I managed to round off my sump plug the other day, so looking at a replacement plug, and 13mm socket.
Both types of washer are available off ebay when I search for the plug.

Thanks

With Magpies on this, stick with copper, or alluminium

Ok, sounds like the aluminium option wins.

Thanks

Copper is easier to re-anneal for re-use.
It is hard to anneal small aluminium parts without melting them.

saying that, you'll find a Dowty washer / seal would be good too. But for simplicity just stick with copper

would this sump plug have a magnetic core ?

i'm not sure want to know if theres more than oil in the sump, would it be used just for reassurance?

Yes it has. Microscopic particles will wear off gears, chains etc and while the filter should catch them this is a bit of back up.
Should you have a major cam lobe failure, for example, hopefully the magnet will catch the bits before they go round the engine to cause more damage !

The main and big end bearing surfaces are lead based, obviously not magnetic.
