Unknown Cable Help Need Please

Working away at reconnecting the wiring on my S3 rebuild and have lost the location tag on a relatively thick brown wire that starts at the alternator and which I thought connected to something in the nearside of the engine bay.

However I'm at a loss as to what this could be but through a process of elimination and the size of the connector I'm thinking earth chassis point, unlikely as can't see why you'd want to energise the chassis, or starter motor solenoid at the main battery feed connection? Or something else completely!

If it comes from the alternator I'd suggest it goes to the battery lead connection on the starter motor?


Wiring diagram shows it going to the battery, in reality it goes to the permanent live to the starter motor
