Discussion
hi, can anyone recommend anyone to fit new male/ female roof connections for a S3? I know I can buy them from leigh at Autobarn, but fitting the males is way above my level! Plus I know once you open the panels up , there might be other issues. Ideally somewhere not too far from London, thanks
I plan to change the male points on my roof as they are too short. I'm going to remove the old ones and insert longer connections by glassing them in with either Evercoat Fibertech or UPol Fibral so they fit tightly into the new recess I plan to fit in the screen section. Straight forward if you're not adverse to doing what needs to be done to remove the old ones first.
It really not a difficult job and there are plenty of old threads on here explaining how to do it. Here's just one of them to get you going...

And me I don't 'do' FB...so please keep up the posts on here https://www.facebook.com/groups/tvrsseries
Cheers

Me too!
Mike, please can you stop pointing out that 'everyone's gone to Facebook'?
a) they haven't, and
b) it encourages people to do so.
I find that those who choose to remain here are the serious ones who have good advice to give. I don't mind people using FB if they choose to (I even lurk a little myself). But there's plenty of cross-communication (including by your good self).
But PH will always be my 'go-to' on S matters, and the archive MUST be maintained. FB is no substitute.

Sorry: that was an intemperate thread diversion.
I cut out my (rusty) targa tangs, and replaced them with aluminium flat bar (from eBay) resined-in and filled to the panels with good old 'Davids Isopon' products. Used the front and rear sockets to jig them while the resin was wet, wrapping them with clingfilm to stop it welding the whole thing together.
Far from the unpleasantest job I've done on the S, and the result better than new!

I believe it is still possible to 'do' both? But, like it or not, there is a broader spectrum of advice on Facebook these days but a wealth of knowledge still here on PH with a bit of searching .Obviously, if you don't 'do' Face Book you won't know that I regularly direct, particularly newcomers, to Piston Heads

Mike is only stating the facts, sadly FB, for whatever reason, and I don't proclaim to understand it, appeals to people more than PH. I for one find it much easier to find things on PH, the interface is so much clearer and the information more readily to hand. I think we should push to get everyone back on here.

I’ll second that.
Sadly this is happening elsewhere too; the Buell Fakebook group has virtually killed my Buell Forum which, like PH, is a treasure trove of useful reference dating back to its inception... but once it goes, it's gone. Websites cost money to host, it's only surviving by virtue of a few true diehards making a monthly financial contribution. When it's no longer viable, it will mean the loss of a great deal of priceless archive information, neatly corralled into titles threads, that are not only searchable but, just as importantly, peer reviewed and critiqued... unlike Fakebook with its transient rolling script, here today, gone tomorrow.
Tragically, we will all be the poorer if we lose these 'old' resources (albeit that they didn't even exist just 20 years ago!).
I get that it is easier to post photos on Fakebook (than here), which may be one reason, another is that I'm told it's easier to skip from one interest group to another (on Fakebook), so maybe it appeals to the laziness in people ...or it may just be sheep syndrome

I till do BOTH, prefer PH for the easier to follow threads and the google search facility is better than the fb search.https://www.facebook.com/groups/tvrsseries
I enjoy the multitude of new posts on fb but they quickly melt into the distant memory.
I too try to tell all new fb members to join PH.

Unfortunately FB won't be here today gone tomorrow. Let's keep PH going as long as possible for all the reasons outlined above or all the accumulated knowledge will be lost.mentall said:

Yes, I completely agree with that. FB is just crap. Mike, please can you stop pointing out that 'everyone's gone to Facebook'?
