I want to replace the original 1990 vintage immobiliser that's playing up - don't want to find myself stranded somewhere because the immobiliser decides not to play! Problem is, whomever (I know who, have the receipt, but won't shame them) fitted the immobiliser butchered the ignition switch, cut the flying leads to the quick and replaced with grossly underrated cable, my concern is removing the current cable will leave nowt to reconnect to... hence I'd rather replace the plastic switch, they're not expensive I'd rather the job was done right than botched, again. However I'm not entirely sure what it came off, someone else reckons Transit, I was thinking either Granada (which I believe the steering rack/column is from) or Fiesta. Has anyone else replaced one and can tell me what to buy? Part no. would be great! Thanks.

the steering rack is based upon a Vauxhall Chevette rack, the steering column is Ford Sierra.

That's not saying the switch itself isn't common to many Fords of that era?

This is a spare I have from a Mk2 Sierra (adjustable) steering column. If you reckon it'll fit make me an offer wink

Looks similar although the body of mine is plastic 🤔

I also need to do something about the steering rack, there's way too much play... do you know what I need to order? Is there an upgrade? There are a lot of turns lock to lock...

Thank you!

Steering is heavy enough without putting in a "quick rack"!

If you want it reconditioned professionally Kiley Clinton have a good reputation ..... https://steering-racks.co.uk/

If you want to have a go at it yourself, it depends which bits are worn?

+1 for Kiley Clinton - they did a superb job on mine which had miss matched steering arms.
