Can anyone tell me where the engine is earthed to the chasis? I have an S1 with intermittant starting faults, and the Volt meter is only showing around 12 volts when idling. I have put on a new starter motor, uprated my alternator to a 55amp/hour one, and put a new bigger battery on.

I can only think that the engine earth to chasis is not as good as is should be?

The earth to the battery is good (from the radiator filler bracket).

Any ideas?

Thanks

Paul.

There is an earth strap from a bolt on the back of the engine/gearbox bellhousing to a bolt welded onto the chasis down next to the bottom of the steering shaft.

It is worth putting a couple of extra earths on the s as i was at Barnet a couple of years ago and they had an s which had blown its electrics due to an earth problem, it was their policy to always fit an extra earth

Thanks guys,

I'll clean up the existing earth and fit an additional one to be on the safe side.

Thanks

Paul.
