£5k may be good for a crate engine but for less than £600 I purchased a full S Type Jag with manual box and at 80k miles still plenty of life left. I then sold the remains for £300.
It cost around £3k to do the change over in my S1. There are at least two other Jag engined S's and at least another two being built.

And if you're not too bothered about the extra few horses that the VVT adds to the Jag engine, a V6 Mondeo can probably be bought for less. Without the VVT, the Duratec in the ST220 puts out 'only' 226bhp.
