Had my S2 advertised for a while now, lots of people enquire, tell them the mileage and I never hear from them again

Ok, it's got 92k on the clock, so what, they're genuine and it's been well looked after. It's very very very well priced (presumably why I get a lot of calls), but it seems to me that people want something for nothing nowadays!!

So any ideas how I convince people that 7,500 miles pa isn't exactly high mileage?

I suppose its all down to convincing people the car has been cherished for all of the miles and is a better car for being driven and looked after, then neglected in a garage all its life.. ?

Cheers,
Matt.

I do not have the cash in my hand yet and until then it is not sold.

It also has not been sold through advertisement either.

Once done, I will post details. Until then, no comment.

I would agree that high mileage cars are ruled out because of th miles.

It is of course bo11ox as some cars have been pratically restored in the last 2.5 years !!!

About 4.5k....the same I paid for it. Not trying to make a profit or anything. Enjoyed owning the car, but now it's time to get something different. -I think it's what it's worth...am I asking too much?

7500 per annum = winter motoring in my book = chassis rot? I would go for a summer use only car, where the chassis can generally be assumed to be sound. May give you a couple of thou for it though...

Lee I agree that generally that is the case, however I saw plenty low mileage one's that hadn't been look after because the owner believed by leaving it in the garage it'll stay sweet and rust free So don't be confused by the low mileage it must be a good un school of thought...., there are other pointers to look out for, the most important of all is the current owner and his/her attitude towards cars in general.
Saying that most Tivs are owned by peeeps that care about their cars .
To to use a naff quote it's all about
1. condition
2. condition
3. condition.

I picked mine up for 7k and using the theory of has it got a history, has it been used, what has it been used for, does the bloke have a beard etc etc i didnt mind 78k.

No offence towards gents/women with beards.

Sorry I don’t agree at all with this, from what I’ve seen cars that are used daily are far more reliable and often have less rust than cars that are stuck in a garage!

My car was a low mileage car and it had lots of parts fail when I put it into regular use, I would rather buy a high mileage reliable car than one that sits around only doing a few thousand a year!

My S has done 24000 in the past 18 months and is now far more reliable than when I got it!

So to clarify... in order to sell my car should I have a beard or not?

Without offending anyone who has a beard...!

Beard makes you look like a car anorak when selling... no beard makes you look like an enthusiast...

It would appear to me that you have a problem selling your car for several reasons. the biggest problem you face is the time of year. people don't buy at this time of year unless they are after a big bargain. without seeing your car it is difficult to tel what its worth. See if you can get a pic on the forum then we would all be able to give you a reasonable estimate.

Don't con yourself, the mileage IS a problem!

As most will tell you, a TVR to most peolpe is a second car and to get reasonable insurance you have to have limited mileage up to 5K or less.

In reality MOST do about 3K a year 4K at most so a car average of 7 1/2 K a year is high.

As to dressing to sell, well, big breasts and a blonde wig may well get someone going, Apparently Ted likes to wear womens cloths (only joking Ted) Oh dear! I wonder if this will get binned!

Good luck in selling it, I'd buy it, sod the miles if the cars a good un. My beamer has 160K and runs like a dream, but then its not a TVR is it.

Ive read all the threads, and recently being in the market for an S all ive got to say is this, as harsh as it may sound. Sorry.
I looked at several cars recently, some low miles, some higher miles, and my conclusion is this.
Its the age of the car that lets it down. Pictures on web sites and forums really are not a good indication of condition as i found out to my cost having travelled a 400 mile round trip to see what appeared to be an absolute Gem, but in reality turned out to be a complete Shed. I have yet to find 1 'S' that does not feel like its about to fall apart when driving, everything rattles and clonks, and the engine needs a turbo the size of India to make it rev a bit and frankly i think theyve had theyre day!

I know this'll get a slatting, and im not going to argue with anyone who says theyre car is pristine and runs like a dream. This is just my personal opinion of what i found. Needless to say i wont be buying an 'S'

I wish id never sold my Kit Car now!

There is some total and utter bo11ox being spouted on the thread..... I have restrained my comments so far but have now had enough.

1 - Chassis Condition - My chassis has done 100,000 miles and is in far better condition because it HAS BEEN USED EVERYDAY !!! The chassis absorbs ambient heat from the engine which means its continually dried. Until you 'summer use' only cars have been kept in a dehumified and sealed garage they will be full of moisture.

2 - High mileage puts people of cars. TRUE. Until they come and see it. I have sold mine to the first person that has seen it. For sensible money. Because it is what I advertised it as. Sorted. Do not expect all cars to be this good

3 - Rattles and Squeaks - What do you honestly expect from hand made vehicles that are 10 plus years old. If you want Porsche quality then go and buy a Porsche.

4 - IMHO I would prefer a car that has been used all year.

I know more about S series cars than most (not a brag - I have sought that knowledge) The cars I see that have been used regularly all year have issues sorted when they appear. The owners enjoy driving them and sort them accordingly. There are owners who only use them in the dry and fall into this category aswell, but its just not the same. I don't have to sell my car and that is not the purpose of this rant, but it just infuriates me to read some complete shite spouted from people who have limited knowledge of the marque or model.

I don't mean to be balshy about it but for ****s sake !! It appears people want to buy something for nothing these days.

I agree that cars advertised as being one thing and then being another are not good news.

I would however be very annoyed if I was the vendor of the vehicle you are discussin as we all on this group know where you went, so please for their sake keep those opinions to yourself as we do not have the evidence from either side to validate your comments.

Cheers

Mark
TVRless in 4.5 hrs time and very sad to see the S go as it is/was/will be a fantastic car with 100,000 miles on it looking in fanastic condition with a new and happy owner.
Shame Marcus Brady isn't on this list. He is on the Club's helpline for the S series and his has got 136,000 miles on it the last time I spoke to him. Being restored currently, but was being sprinted. Superb car.
