Got 10 of these rare rubber (not poly like others on sale) steering rack mounts on eBay if anyone needs replacements. They fit S1, not sure about later models, maybe someone can advise.

As can be seen in the photos attached, on the steering rack there are two saddles where the rubbers are installed, one side is flat and the rubber slips on easily, but the other side has quite high lips that you have to get the rubber over.

I found it difficult to get the rubber over the high sided one even with the rack off the car in bits, can the rubbers be changed without removing the rack completely, or do you split the rubber/poly at the bottom?

I have a few for sale and some have been sold and I’d like to be able to offer some advice / assistance on how these can / should be installed.

Any help appreciated.

Aren't the rubbers split as standard? After 20+ years I don't remember whether mine were, but I don't see any disadvantage to splitting them and I'd do it without any hesitation if they gave me any trouble.

No, no split in them as standard. I thought the same as you, put a cut in the bottom as the bracket will pull them back together and hold them.
