Hi all, Just in the process of removing the engine & Box for a new clutch (and front chassis renovation when out) and I seem to be struggling how to work out removing the 2 fuel lines. is there a special tool, or does anyone have any suggestions how to release them without a special tool?

Thanks!

Hi

I didn't need anything special when I removed mine, however, it was a while ago so I can't remember what I actually did frown

Have you got a photo of the connections concerned as it may refresy my memory....sorry.

Cheers

If you have the quick release fitting, there is a special Ford tool recommended to release the coupling pictured below, but you might be able to purpose a pair of needle nose pliers to do the same job.

Alternatively, could you not just unbolt the fuel rail and fold it out of the way, securing it with some cable ties?

Sounds like you have the 'John Guest' type fittings? A type of quick release (or not in your case) fitting used on all sorts of stuff

YouTube is your friend . . . . . clicky . . . . . . just one of many wink

This is the photo of the connection. Another 15 mins of head scratching to no Avail.

That looks like a collet connector. You should find there is a collet (sleeve) that can be pushed into the connector (ie upwards in this case) to release it from the spigot. The collet itself is out of sight in this case since you can't see the far side of the connector. If you have space to get a mirror in there it might make sense. Sometimes these are supplied with a tool that makes it easier to push on the collet, but that shouldn't be necessary once you have found the collet.

The orange part in your photo is a protective cap, push down on the little tag you can see sticking out and it will pop off and drop down out of the way. From there on it is as per the YouTube video I linked to in my previous post.

I have absolutely no idea what you are meant to do with that 'special tool' thats looks like the hungry Caterpillar wink

The pressure regulator can be unbolted from the fuel rail, save having the whole thing hanging around smile

Thanks for all the comments. Thin hose pliers and pushing the collar in seems to have worked. Now for the pesky angina mounts!

Seems to have worked? If it's off I'd say it has worked and if it's still on it hasn't scratchchin

Those angina mounts can be seriously pesky laugh
