Gaz shocks and springs...

Now I know this is probably a well trodden road, so to speak...but my local TVR specialist horizonmotorsport.co.uk has just quoted me £710 inc vat, to fit four adjustable, nickel plated, Gaz shock absorbers plus new springs. This price also includes setting up ride height and geometry.

My questions to you clever chaps are...is this a reasonable price and are Gaz shocks any good?

I only drive sedately in the countryside and will never venture on a track...in any competetive sort of way. Just looking for a comfy ride without sacrificing too much handling...

Dammed good price, they retail at £519 and fitting and alignment could cost you anything up to £300.
Plus Mike and Wendy are Brill.
Me,Gefopsman and Hoover will vouch for Gaz.

GAZ are growing on me, they were only fitted at the weekend, but seem to work really well.

Ive had gaz springs/shocks on mine for a couple of years and they work fine. They cost arround £350 though so unless they have gone up in price you are being charged quite a lot to fit them.

They have unfortunately just gone up in price again.
The ordinary zinc plated version are £83.64 plus Vat
and the nickel plated version cost about £25 a set more.Worth it though IMHO because NP lasts a lot longer than zinc.Most people seem to prefer them to Avo, I think you will find most of the independants offering them as a budget shock, which to be honest is what they are.

Many thanks.... you know of Mike and Wendy...I am always a bit sceptical when man at garage tells me my car needs a whole bunch of stuff done to it....and it was with this view that I let Mike do a few of those jobs. I thought to myself, until proven a 'dodgy geezer' I will give him the benefit of doubt and so far he has come up trumps...my car gets better and better. I do feel a bit like the poor relative though, as my old S3 sits amongst a bunch of late Cerberas and Griffs in his garage but he always gives me the time of day and Wendy even gave me a lift home the other day...so far so good.....gotta' save up for those shocks though

I get round most of the indi's and whilst there are a few sharks in TVR circles, there are also a good few genuine people out there like Mike and Wendy, David Batty and others who love what they do and I think you can pretty well trust them.
