Clutch Hydraulics
Discussion
Picked up my S3 from mechanic today, hopefully that will be the end of my Starter Motor woes. However, when I got in the car, clutch pedal felt lighter than usual, and couldn't engage 1st gear, so car went straight back on the ramp for clutch bleeding.
There was definitely some air in the system, which was a surprise, as Slave cylinder was replaced a couple of thousand miles ago, and at the same time, master cylinder had a refurb kit installed.
Has anyone else had this, and is it a sign of pending failure? My mechanic played it down, but I struggle to see how air can get into a 'healthy' system?
I guess time will tell!

Hi, just read your post again, for what a master cylinder costs I wouldn't have bothered fanny around with a seal kit Cheap as chips Land Rover master cylinder

Mike, is that a straight swap, ie. will my copper pipe screw straight into that part without any adapter?
I can recall lot's of chat on here about alternative set ups, but fairly sure mine is the original.
Just planning ahead incase of repeat failure!
When I had a clutch cylinder problem on my S2, the guys at Powertrack were great - very knowledgeable, and knew exactly what parts were required to save new unions having to be made.I can recall lot's of chat on here about alternative set ups, but fairly sure mine is the original.
Just planning ahead incase of repeat failure!

No, if yours is still using the original pipe I suspect not?I can recall lot's of chat on here about alternative set ups, but fairly sure mine is the original.

But why not get it sorted out with cheapo Land Rover bits and a new pipe then any future issues are no problem?
Presumably this one from TVR Parts is correct thread for original pipe?
Or PowerTrack look like a good contact

Why not replace the copper with stainless braided while you're at it? You can check the fittings at each end before you make up the hose.
V8S4me, if I had any idea what connectors to ask for at each end of the braided hose, I probably would do!? They are just connectors to me, so no idea what thread, or size to ask for.....As it turns out, I will definitely have to sort it asap, as I went to take it for a test drive this morning, and clutch was soft. Definitely air in system again, so Master cylinder and hose need swapping out.
I'll give the company identified above (Powertrack) a call this week.

Simples...1. Take your new slave cylinder to your local friendly motor factor and ask him for the correct fitting.
2. Buy this and a corresponding fitting in the the opposite thread ie. if the slave was metric buy an imperial or vice versa.
3. Take your fittings home and see which one fits the the master cylinder.
4. When you know what you need order the bits from HERE.
If you want to be really clever you can plumb in a remote bleed screw with an extra bit of braided hose.
