Otter switch..
Discussion
Well the otter switch packed up on my S3 last night leaving the rad fan continuously running (better than not working given the temps recently
). Anyhow having taken a look at the parts list I popped off to the local motorfactors this evening to get a metro switch. Looking through the book for a switch that matched mine for a metro was a right royal waste of time :|. I eventually gave up looking fo switches by car type (the guy who runs the shop had already given up and left me with the book
). I resorted to just looking for switches that looked right and then checking the specs. I found that almost all of the large screw in switches have the same thread size (M22x1.5) and then it was a case of finding the correct wire connections and temp range.
Soooooooooooo.... The point of all this is I found that Intermotor part number 50110 was just the very fella for the job, having the correct thread size, spade fitting wire connections and 88 to 92 degree operating parameters (so now the badly botched up and modified one from a previous owners repair is in the bin)
To recap that is Intermotor part number 50110.
There were a number of others in the book with the same thread size and connection type but different temp ranges so if anyone out there wishes to adjust the range to match their own particular requirements I suggest ya pop off to ya friendly motorfactors and ask if ya can peruse their book so long as ya get M22x1.5 thread unit ya can put in whatever temp range best matches your requirements.
Hope all that maybe of use to some of you.
Cheers,
Carl.
That was Intermotor 50110. Standard spec otter switch incase you lost it in all my rambling
. I think it was a Pug/Citroen one but who cares so long as its right for the job..

I agree it is not the best stuff in the world, I have myself had problems with their kit before (mainly ignition parts on older cars with contact breaker dizzies). I needed a switch and thats what the shop stocked so i got one, its working fine and dandy at the moment whether it will stay that way only time will tell.
