I am planning a weekend of sorting out a few wee niggles on the S. Want to adjust the bonnet as it doesnt appear to be 100% square. The bible suggests sticking the car on axle stands. Being particularly green when it comes to mechanics - is there any particular points where these should/should not be positionned? dont want to damage anything!!!
Also - if I move the bonnet forward slightly (which I think is needed as passenger side windscreen wiper is rubbing slightly on underside of bonnet) - presumably the bonnet will go "up" even less?

A word of warning. When I had my bonnet repaired and re-sprayed at Wedge they spent an afternoon trying to get it to sit straight. They then concluded the chassis may have bent when I hit the fox (long story, but it was dark, it was open road and I was going quite fast!!) After spending a number of hours checking the chassis they concluded it was in fact the bonnet which wasn't quite the right shape in the first place.
After talking to a dealer (HHC) and a few other owners, I have since gathered that this may be one of those "they all do that sir" moments.
Good luck anyway and don't get too frustrated...

I wonder if there always was some natural misalignment between the body shell and the nose moulding due to the GRP curing differently? My S always had a slightly bigger gap between the bonnet and the bottom of the screen pillar on one side. Of course if I tried to square this gap then some other dimension would have to move out of alignment elsewhere. One weekend I decided that I could improve things, and after 2-3 hours and with the bonnet not opening on the catch at one point I really wished I hadn't started In the end I decided that as long as the horizontal gap along the wing was straight then that would have to do... Unless it is really bad don't go there. Rich...
Nope it is just the joy of a handbuilt car. On the wedges, the chassis body alignment is out slightly so that the body is about 8mm off centre. Happened on the original they made the moulds from and has been in all of the cars since. For fun, I used to say it was designed to help cornering around roundabouts and that the car was originally specced by a guy who lived in Milton Keynes.

The type of wiper blade could be causing it, the original ones are very flexible and sort of wrap around the screen on the passenger edge, often these are replaced with bigger blade that don’t wrap themselves around the screen, this causes them to hit the bonnet on the passenger side.
cheers all. If it hadnt been for you I would have spent saturday pulling my hair out probably for no reward. Instead I went out and got hammered.
Think I will leave the bonnet after your wise advise. The bible suggests a 5 min job!
Think the wiper could be the problem having read todays posts - might do a crude fix next weekend and take a heat gun to them just to depress them slightly and give some clearance.
