When I turn the key in my S3c, every now and again nothing happens (as if the batteries flat). But if I try again the car starts fine. I'm kind of guessing it may be the brushes on the starter motor ?? Any ideas.
My guess would be a sticking starter solenoid, could be heat damaged/worn or could simply be marginal wiring not quite passing enough voltage to overcome friction etc.
Agree with above but could also possibly be a dodgy earth lead. When it fails to start, try connecting a jump lead between the battery negative and the engine.
If it turns over then it will be the earth, if not the soleniod is your problem.
Happy hunting!!
Sounds like the starter solenoid is playing up. A friend of mine with an Alpha Spider had the same problem, starts fine then sometimes nothing except a click from the solenoid. He had the starter+solenoid replaced and it has been fine since.
