Will I be disappointed with an S2?
Discussion
Guys and Gals
Im hopefully going to buy an S2 over the weekend and would appreciate any advice.
Also id like to know if im expecting too much from this sort of car.
I currently drive a 200bhp Leon Cupra Sport and love to throw it about around the lanes.
Ive just sold my sevensque kit car which was equally as much fun. What do you think?

I don't think you'll be dissapointed. The V6 powered S is a great car, the handling is generally accepted to be better than the Chimaera in terms of feedback and ride. It won't be the same a 7, but I'd expect it to be more fun than the Cupra.
With about 170 bhp and the light weight you have a fair amount of performance - but the only way to answer your question is to test drive a couple.
Personally I found the V6 S3 I used to have to be more enjoyable than a mates 225 bhp TT Roadster.
Cheers,
JSG.

Had a blue S2 for a couple of years, brilliant fun, faster than most other cars on the road, handled well, very reliable and cheap to maintain. That's how I got hooked on TVRs.
I'd say this is an ideal first TVR. Usual advice applies, make sure it has been well maintained and is in good condition. There aren't many bad ones about, but when they're bad they're diabolical.
Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)
I doubt that you will be disappointed. I bought mine in April and try and use it every day. Even when it rains. It's taken time for me to get used to a rear wheel drive car again after donkey's years of front drivers. It's a pussycat of a car that responds well to being driven with purpose. Personally I love the torquey 2.9 V6 and the noises it makes. Drawbacks? Well I'm a bit tubby and getting in and out in the rain with the roof on is a bugger. Um..oh I discovered last night that the headlights aren't particularly strong, but maybe I need different bulbs. I saw a bloke the other day in a Ferrari. My S2 sounds much much better and I bet I have more fun at a fraction of the price.

I think CarZee found the S2 better than his old TT as well..
I've had my S1.5 (see profile) for nearly a month now and I love it..
It's quicker than most stuff on the roads, looks great, gives incredible feedback to the driver (much more akin to the Cat7 than the Spanish Skoda ) and of course, there's the implacable satisfaction which comes with being a TVR owner
For six years I commuted in S2 folowed by S3. when it came to looking for a replacement I tried an Elise and a TT roadster. Neither compared, for me personally. The TT isn't a Sporst car. The Elise was gutless compared to the S, and althought the elise is faster when driven hard, it can only be driven hard and with its coarse engine soon becomes tiresome - certainly not myidea of an every day car. After driving both the TT and Elise, I was glad to get back into the the S, which can be driven lazily with effortless 4th and 5th gear overtaking, or transforms into a bit of a beast if you drop an extra cog. It also gets a lot of attention, as Jo Bloggs doesn't see many S's. I eventually found a suitable replacement for the S....after 5 minutes behind the wheel of the Griff 500 which I subsequently bought.
I've driven a number of TT's, both fixed-head and cabrio, including one at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, and although it sticks to the road well it is less involving than my wife's Mondeo.
Where-as my recently acquired S3 is an absolute joy to drive.
In short, you'll not be dissapointed.

Interesting......i hear what you say about the S being a great car to drive but how does it fair against the TT (225bhp) when it comes to the performance stakes. What does it pull like on the motorway ? I used to have a Mazda Xedos 6 which pulled great in ever gear and was reasonable quick but i kept getting fed up of being overtaken on the motorway by bloody turbo diesels will i feel the same in an S.
quote:Considering its relatively low power the way it accelerates from a steady 80mph to overtake on the motorway is amazing imo. Low weight I guess and good levels of torque.

Agree with Mark - in straight performance terms, the TT can't touch it on the motorway or any other road... upto about 120mph I'd guess.
TT's insane road-holding notwithstanding when considering twisties though.. I reckon properly driven, the TT is a faster car point to point on the twisties.

quote:Haven't driven one but I'd be surprised if the s3 had the road holding of many modern cars. It's a lot more fun though imo and it's what I personally prefer over simply being able to go dead fast as I was able to do during a scooby wrx test drive which just left me cold.

I had an S3c as my first TVR and loved it. Performance wise it was pretty good (but compared to what?) prior to the TVR I guess the fastest car I had owned was my Porsce 924 Turbo 0-60 6.6 sec. 145 max. I would say the S3c was similar although it's difficult to say 'cos one was a quiet closed coupe and the other a noisy soft top . In terms of involvement the S gave me far more fun. I joined up with the TVRCC, had some great weekends away and met some good people some of whom have become close friends. I re-discovered the fun of club race meetings via the Tuscans and had some memorable visits to France in it. Will you be diappointed? I have no idea, it depends on what you are looking for, but certainly in terms of overall enjoymant I got as much out of my S3c as I did my early involvement with MGA's and the MGCC years ago. All good fun. Regards Rich...
