Engine block / gearbox paint

This stuff is supposed to be good.
From my (limited) experience all those VHT type paints only work on perfectly clean metal, basically if it ain't been sand blasted it won't stick for long.I've yet to find anything that'll paint onto wire brushed metal around the exhaust ports and last any time? For the rest of the engine any old paint will do.
I used the Ford Grey VHT (in the piccie above). My block was rusty so wire brushed the worst off and then used POR15 three stage treatment before the VHT grey.
A year on and none of it is lifting or rusting through - yet! I'm not great when it comes to painting things but I just wanted it a bit tidier before it went back in. Sorry about the mess - I've tidied up since then, honest!

I used Halfords Engine Enamel Aluminium on the engine. That was 10 years ago and it still look good with no flaking. On the mild steel exhaust manifold flanges I use brush on VHT BBQ paint from the local DIY shop. That works really well and just needs a touch up every couple of years.

What did you prep it with? Im doing the gearbox and bell housing first some kind of silver and this could fit the bill. Any one got any piccys?. Im decreasing currently and gonna clean up via elbow grease and drill/fine wire brush attachment. Blasting isnt an option at the mo!Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
