Help! Clutch Slave Cylinder Adjustment Advice

Hi all. Just had a call from my Dad. His S3C appears to have clutch issues. So far he's checked that the slave cylinder moves and actuates the lever arm. He wants to adjust the length of the operating rod so it starts to push on the lever arm earlier, ie remove some slack that seems to be present. Normally I'd nip over after work or travel down at a weekend and sort it with him but obviously that's not possible at the moment. The old guy is struggling to find the best way to get at the slave cylinder to carry out the adjustment as access seems a bit tricky. Any advice on where to get your hands in, and what size tools are needed?
