So, after a day's tinkering, sorting out the cooling system, readjusting brake bias etc etc, my S2 is back on the road. Today she gets a clean - four months in a garage with only a blast every weekend and an oil change means that it's about time to lavish some attention on the car. Chassis has been re-waxoyled, bonnet alignment finally sorted, and a small blow from the downpipe-to-manifold join fixed (I hate doing exhaust jobs!).
While the car was off the road, I was seriously toying with the idea of selling her and buying a Griff in winter. However, out yesterday, car running beautifully, brakes inspiring confidence and everything generally feeling tight and shipshape; and so a total change of heart. I [i]love[/i] this car. OK, so it's not as fast as a Griff, or as pretty - but I rarely see another, it's as easy as anything to work on yourself, bits are cheap and [i]oh sweet Jesus the noise[/i]. I have no idea what stainless system has been fitted in the past, but it sounds better than most TVRs I have heard, including the pre-cat Griff that overtook me yesterday with a cheery wave.
It's also a fine thing to be driving around in a car that feels so sorted when you have done most of the work to get it that way yourself - gratifying. No sour taste from big garage bills...
Now, if anyone can:
- find me a headlamp trim,
- tell me where to get a new rear hood near London or Surrey and relatively cheaply (I was quoted £300!!!)
- recommend a decent place in London or Surrey to get the wheels diamond cut, and
- tell me [i]how the hell to clean the cream interior[/i] (nothing seems to get the worst of the marks out)
my car will be an absolute peach.

Agree with all you say - not the fastest TVR on the road but still fast enough to enjoy, easy-peasy to work on yourself, parts available from local shops - yep it's a peach right enough.
I had wheels diamond cut at spit and polish in Tonbridge in Kent - courier there and back, all within a week. Fantastic job. I would only add that you have to be aware that they only give a 6 month warranty on diamond cut and lacquered wheels - mine started to corrode just after that, around the wheel centres - I think from where the tyre fitter wound the clamp up on the balance machine. Not helped by the fact that I keep my car outside all year.

I cleaned the interior with "Green Genie" diluted in a garden spray bottle - although it's a swine to get hold of now - I've used nearly all my reserves and the shop doesn't stock it any more. Then some Autoglym leather cleaner.
