Hi all , back to mucking about on the S over winter , I'm having a new Speedo made up by Speedy Cables and they've asked the question , what type of pick up sensor drives the old Speedo ? They need to know for the digital odometer conversion.
I've been looking into this and am i right in thinking it's the standard Ford Granada/Transit rotary type with the shaft with two flats that goes into the gearbox ?
I've had a look at the alternative parts list and its listing that part .
Are there other types of sensor with different pick ups ?
Any help gratefully received.

My speedo's with them for refurb at the moment. I bought a sender, eBay Item: 153013055383, to fill the hole in the gearbox while my sender is with Speedy, but I haven't tested it. Looks as though it should work, though, and the compatibility chart shows the right range of Granadas etc. The connector is different, though.

Think it's time to ring Speedy and get a progress report. Hope they don't mix up our parts!

Hi mentall , cheers for the reply , yes that's the one I've been looking at , can you confirm that's the type that fits in the gearbox please and i assume your car is a 2.9 S2/3 ?
I'm not worried about the connector , just the type of drive that located in the gearbox.
Cheers once again.

Yup, it's a 1990 S3C. The gearbox is the original standard Type 9.

The helical gear fits on the spindle of the new unit, and the unit fits in the hole in the 'box. More than that, I cannot say (yet).

The speedo went to Speedy in September, and the sender in December. The odometer was jammed when I got the car (7 years ago), and somebody had cut into the speedo case to try to unjam it, but the speedo worked fine until last September when it stopped just before our epic trip round Northern Spain. We used a smartphone speedo for that.

Speedy Cables receptionist said today she'd check progress and let me know. I wait with bated breath.

That's great , thanks for the info !!
I will let Speedy Cables know tomorrow , it's also useful for me to let them know that they're already doing exactly the same set up for you .
Thanks once again.
