Personally i like the idea of the scooby PS rack with electronic pump.. there is a thread on the chim forum its also as per the evolution chassis.
The thinking being most problems are with a worn rack (not in this case) so replace that.. also should not put as much strain on the bulkhead..
Cheers

Hi... Yes I have installed a Subaru steering rack on my S3. I won't go into full details yet, as I haven't done any kind of testing, I've not even started the new engine yet !! So it'll be a while before I can call it successful. My rack is from the early 'classic' Impreza(I think its known as the GC8). The oil input housing has to be spun around 180o but the bolts still line up. That needs to be done to give access to the oil feed & return to/from the rack. You'll need Impreza rack fixing rubbers & clamps, or make those yourself. The scoobie track rod ends are no good to use, I used Toyota ones. A scoobie column knuckle joint is required to connect to the rack input pinion and to adapt to fit the S column.
Like I say it can all be engineered to fit (mine does), I am using an engine driven hydraulic pump, hence why no powered up testing yet. But the road wheels do turn from the steering wheel... Which is a good thing.
Although I have a feeling the lock is slightly reduced.
Once my Jag AJ30 engine is up and running (around Easter next year) I'll know more, and that's when I will post details on my PH thread (Terry's tale).
Hope that helps...
