I am about to start the next project and to install a megasquirt fully sequential fuel and spark system. Also a relay board for fuel pump etc. With the battery in the boot should i locate with the relay next to it . Some things i read say no as the added length of the loom will create too much resistance for some sensors and or create an irregular spark.

I've fitted an Emerald ecu to my S1 (Jag V6 powered) and located it as well as a supplementary fuse box on a board in the drivers footwell. On the RHS there is a raise over the chassis and then dips down to give a 60mm wide area before the outer wing. I have made this board easily removable and the wires form an umbilical so the whole board can be swung out and forward to give easy access on the rare occasions it may need accessing.

Clean signals are imperative, especially from the crank &/or cam sensors. So use screened cable where instructed to.
Logic says short cable runs are better too, and to be kept away from any electrical 'noise'.

Mine is above the passenger's footwell where there is ample space, access to power supplies and a ready made hole through the bulkhead.

I mounted all my ecu fuses and relays next to TVR's fusebox on a new bracket in roughly the same place as before and put the ECU (VEMS) up above the glovebox
Power to all of that comes from a nice chunky wire straight off the starter motor and earths go back to the fuse box bracket then a sensibly sized wire back to the original point on the back of the passenger side cylinder head.

I can't think of a sensible reason to put any of it anywhere other than "as close to the engine as practical"

A service loop is a very good idea.

The higher the better, prevents water running along conductors getting into the ECU

Plugs in down position
