One of my Gaz adjustable shocks was slightly weeping at the recent MoT, so Heath persuaded me to have a new set of Gaz Golds. I now have a very heavy box containing three 12-year old but serviceable shocks and a dodgy one, suitable for an S2 (and I suppose other S models). They are the older type, which need a big wrench to adjust . Are these worth anything, other than a couple of quid at the scrap merchant? A classified advert here would cost £12, so if they are only worth a fiver, it would be pointless. They originally cost £529.

I suppose it depends how much it would cost to get GAZ to refurbish them compared to a new set. I'll bet the old GAZ ones didn't last 90 odd thousand miles like the OEM ones wink

Mine's a nice low-miler. Fitted at 38,000 ; removed at 49,000.

Just 11,000 miles? Four years maybe? Maybe less? That seems to be about the going rate for GAZ. Put the old ones on eBay starting at a tenner and see if they sell. They are worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for them and it will save you a trip to the tip. thumbup

Nice one Heath!

Maybe getting the one weapy (or even all four) serviced may have been a better option .... scratchchin

But, to a workshop a set of new shocks fitted, paid, car gone makes much more sense than having an immobilised car stuck in a bay for a week or so while you wait for shocks to come back from refurb.

PS an ad on Facebook will cost Zero, zilch, zip, nada, nothing.

I don't suppose you still have your OEM dampers? At just 38,000 miles they had plenty of life left in them. Maybe between now and when the new GAZ set gives up you could keep your eyes open for a set of OEM dampers and have those refurbished ready for the next time? smile A decent set of rising rate coil springs will be harder to find but you have three or maybe four years to look thumbup

As per my original message, the original ones went into Central TVR's bin 12 years ago. They would have been swopped out for a reason, not just for the alleged benefit of adjustable ones - probably another MoT failure or advisory.

We have used gaz dampers on a racing mini, they re-build them for not a expensive amount, turn around is quick, I wouldn't buy a new set if I could live with them off the car for awhile.
