S3 headlamp rings
Discussion
I had read previous PH reports of varying success (by S owners) with obtaining the correct size, &/or good quality rims.
This made me very alert in my attempted purchase of new rims.
My fitted rims measured 203mm, the buckets are WIPAC plastic units with 2 moulded lugs at the top for the rim to engage with.
Off I went last Sunday to the Stoneleigh Restoration Show armed with one of my rusty rims !
Nothing on perusal of any stand other than on a local trader I know...
That being... Chase MG.
Barry had chrome on brass rims that looked close, with slight detail differences.
But Barry said take em, try em, and he'll have em back if they don't fit. So I bought em. Today I did just that, and they do fit.
But of course I'll have to make & fit that little TVR tab that secures them to the bonnet.
I think Barry said they were MGA rims, but please be aware, that they fit my car, and as we know all too well, S's can be built with differing parts, on cars that in theory are the same. So they may not fit yours.
Chase MG has a fleebay shop, or you can contact him directly.
Price was good, quality looks good.
So I'm happy.
Oh... I've just looked on fleebay, they do not appear to be listed on Chase MG.

You have a few types to choose from too. In my experience the 'chrome on brass' is the one to go for as the chrome on steel don't last as long.
There appears to be a stainless steel version too although I don't remember seeing one in the flesh.
I have a pair of stainless items for my S, not that hard to come by..There appears to be a stainless steel version too although I don't remember seeing one in the flesh.
