Steering column cowl

As said, they are pretty damn rare, expect a good spanking if you do find them!
The Sierra was sold as the Merkur in America, I think someone found some on Ebay in the States

I don’t understand why the new Toyota Corolla Altis has such agile chassis but a numb steering!

Do you need both parts? Might be able to help with a bottom half
Mine was similarly in poor shape, largely because when they were covered (badly IMHO) at the factory with vinyl 'leathercloth', the fit got distorted. And then in an attempt to "snug" the two halves together, owners during the previous quarter century over-tightened the retaining bolts. So I removed both halves, and carefully picked-off the vinyl covering, being sure to gather all the bits of brittle cowl material that fall out.... then treat the parts as a giant jigsaw puzzle, stick them back together as best as possible, then use fibreglass (tape) or similar to hold all the bits together. When dry, re-cover carefully using the original material. The end result still isn't perfect (the side-to-side fit is out by a couple of mm) but much better than before. And you will probably find a lot of excess folded-over vinyl inside the cowl, which can be carefully trimmed-off and used for small repairs elsewhere such as the gear-shift gaiter. Other sources of spare bits of that material include the back of the door cards, and under the seat cushions. While I was at it, I did the glovebox lid too, removing the hinges and re-aligning them, worth the effort I reckon (the horizontal white line is a reflection).v8s4me said:

..It is the bottom half I require as mine is in poor shape and causing an issue aligning with the top.
What exactly is wrong with it? Is it distorted or just broken? Got a photo?Cut it, bend it, glue it, fix it
Do you mean along the sides where the bottom part joins to the top bit? If that's the case there are three options as I see it:-
1. Try some heat to see if it can be eased back to original shape. Risky - I wouldn't try it!
2. Experiment with different ways of covering it with the vinyl - I'd try this first.
3. Learn to live with it - most of them are not a perfect fit.
This was a new cover I was lucky enough to get hold of a few years ago. It is trimmed with leather and as you can see the join still isn't perfect....
As time has passed the leather has shrunk and peeled away slightly at the edges so it looks worse now, but I ignore it. Maybe if it's a very bad winter I might re-trim it. If I do I'll use vinyl this time because it will take the shape of the cowl better.
