I'm not 100% sure if this was my error or just a failed seal, but I discovered a small leak which proved to be a split crankshaft front oil seal.

Does anyone have any recommendations for good quality seals? I went for Ebay's cheapest, may as well spend a bit more as I'm changing it.

Guess you take your chances with Ebay again, did you do all that damage getting it back out? Did you put a generous smear of grease on the seal faces and front pulley before assembling?

Or go to a bearing & seal specialist? On that wrecked seal I can make out the numbers 42 and 56, presumeably the inner and outer diameters? You'll need to measure the width.

Something like this........... Oil seals

Lightly oiled all surfaces on fitting, I'll use grease next time. The sliver of rubber from the outer lip was missing on removing the crank pulley and was sitting behind the seal.

My guess is I damaged it driving it home and then pushing on the pulley finished the job off. The bend at the top of the seal was where the puller was located, not damaged on fitting.

Thanks, I'll check out the link!
