I installed an electronic ignition from 123-ignition conversion but there is no spark. I think it has something to do with the 3 cables from the motorcraft ignition module that normally plug into the distributor. Does anyone know to what I have connect these to? I can’t seem to find the solution

Is yours the 2.8 engine, does it not have electronic ignition as standard (hence the ignition module)?

Is this what you've bought? I don't think it is suitable for your engine? scratchchin

I have 123 on my Chimaera RV8

If its helps ??
The amplifier usually on the Lucas distributor is not used on the 123.

Did they specify it was suitable for a Ford Cologne 2.8 V6?

I can see no reference to that engine on their website, the one in the photo looks like it is for older Essex V6 engine (clip on cap)?

I said the guy what type of engine it was. I also had to send my distributor to him. I'm currently waiting on a response from him.

If it's built into your Dizzy casing it's obviously going to fit okay then, which is just as well because there's no going back!

Still don't see why you bought it, what were you hoping to gain?

I wanted some more reliability and tuneability. That’s why I bought it.

You will need to disconnect and remove the DV8 Ignition Module

Also check out the ballast resistor wiring, perhaps contact the supplier of the 123 ignition system, I doubt you'll need the ballast resistor but you might do

As mentioned above (ballast resistor), if the 123 ignition is ok to be used with a ballast resistor circuit, wire the 123 distributor ignition cable to the 12 volt ignition supply that can be found at the ballast resistor (pre-resistor) not the 9 volt (post-resistor) output

Should the 123 ignition not require or not work with a ballast resistor circuit, remove the resistor and 9 volt ignition coil, fit a 12 volt ignition coil

Ok but what with all the other things connected to the ignition module like the hot start relais and such?

From Left to Right

Brown/Green (Red @ Module) Is now redundant

Brown, Brown, Brown/Yellow - Don't connect to the Module, they connect to White/Red which is the Ignition switch crank cable and remain as Is

White/Black (Light Green @ Module) Is now redundant

White/Black Same cable as above (Green @ Ignition coil negative) remains as is

IMPORTANT see below

Engine Run Sensor Isn't a sensor it's a fuel pump relay

The White/Black (Green @ Ignition coil negative) cable connects to the fuel pump relay and triggers the relay when the engine is turning (see coil negative pulse Green cable above)

There is no reason why the 123 Ignition Module won't negative pulse the fuel pump relay in the same way as the DV8 Ignition Module does, there are solutions should there be a problem in that the 123 Ignition won't trigger the fuel pump relay

The fuel pump relay doesn't need to be connected until you have completed the other work and proven there is a spark at the plugs

I suggest you disconnect the fuel pump relay until after achieving sparking plugs (in case the fuel pump relay does cause a problem)

Good luck

Enjoy

I'm struggling to see why you'd go to all this trouble. The original setup isn't really any different, and the limitations of the Cologne lump aren't the ignition system.

I basically had a lot of misfires. Changed everything and it still wouldn’t fix the problem. This is the next best thing to help it run better and smoother. Rather then searching for a second hand ignition module

£23 on eBay. I don’t know if I need one yet, but at that price it’s got to be a no brainier
