My V8s gearbox is in trouble!
I have got a big noise in 1,2,3,5 gear ( i think the input shaft bearing has gone). It's a 175000 miles TVR,
i think it's normal to have some wear!
My gearbox is a 28A (std rover vitesse), i have found
a 35A !!!(is it strong enough).

What is a 28A? The Vitesse box used in the V8S is normally referred to as type LT77.

Yes it's an LT77 , but specification change(ratio or strengh),for exemple G19A is SD1 3500SE/VP,G30A is SHERPA van,G22A is police spec SD1and G28A is Vitesse
with stronger bearings(not enough!)and different 5 gear
ratio.

When I had a twin plenum Vitesse and needed to change the gearbox because the input shaft disintegrated I was told all gearboxes (car ) were the same and ratio differences were in the diff.......

I have checked the Rover SD1 workshop manual and no references are given for differing manual gearboxes across the range...... one set of specs for manual gearbox is all that it shows.

Hope this helps.

I believe the military spec sherpa van was a different ratio.

AFAIK there are lots of different versions and ratios with the LT77, don't forget it started out as a Jaguar box too. It was fitted not only to SD1's, sherpas, TVR's, MG's, Morgan it was also in lots of varients of Landies, Disco's and early Rangies too. There are lots out there, only question I have is the version in the V8S the LT77S (strengthened) 28A .
Either way I would imagine you would be looking at +£300 for a rebuild of your existing box.

thanks for everything..yes i keep an eye on the ebay
box (Preston is close from Blackpool!)it's not expensive for the time but i am not sure it's the right
box (coming from a "TVR" breakyard in Wigham).
I'have just buy a set of new DX 150 ( £3.99)on ebay to renew my broken one.
