Going from distributor to crank trigger and coil pack S3/V6
Discussion
Hi,
Is there anyone here that has installed a crank trigger and coil pack to replace the original distributor/coil on a 2.9L V6?
If so, how did you deal with the original distributor that is no longer needed. I understand that it cannot be taken out and blocked off as it drives the oil pump. Is that correct?
I'm installing an Emerald K6 system (in a 1990 S3C) and it coms with these features so I thought I might as well use them.
Engine is going to be supercharged in the next step, hence the ECU upgrade.
All input much appreciated
Kind regards
//Rob

I did very similar on a 2.8 Cologne.
I got myself a spare dizzy and had it cut down to make a dummy 'stump'.
It needs to be engineered so that the short shaft is supported and retained well.
Lube to the original is only from underneath, so no change there.
And that'll do to maintain drive to the oil pump.
Mine has done 20k miles or so, sorry no photos as car now sold.
