Injector wiring loom
Discussion
Thanks Ray
I might just take you up on your offer. I’ve just had the engine and gearbox rebuilt and whilst the car was in bits, I had a new injector loom made. Since the rebuild the cold start has stopped working, and I wondered whether it was a problem with the loom? Also the car ran perfectly (once warm) on the rolling road for over two hours, but has since developed a misfire, now I’ve got it home!
Going to change the dizzy cap, rotor arm and ht leads in the hope that will cure the misfire, but still a bit baffled by the cold start issue.

Hi Andy,
Do you know if its definitely the loom at fault? I have a 'star tester' box which can be useful for doing a wiggle test to help isolate intermittent connections which you'd be welcome to borrow

You could make a test lamp using a 60 Watt headlamp bulb which will draw 5 Amps through a circuit
- *Disconnect Injectors and ECU so as not to burn anything out***
Most good/new injectors will draw less than 1 Amp and I doubt any good/new injectors will draw 2 Amps or more
If the loom you are using is breaking down when carrying less than 1 Amp injector current, the loom will definitely break down when attempting to carry 5 Amps test lamp current
Good luck in finding the fault.....they're a pain

A new loom seems like a rather drastic solution to that. Wouldn't it be better to prove whether the loom you have is faulty? Given that new looms are apparently not easy to come by, you could consider fix the fault too, if you find one.I might just take you up on your offer. I appreciate that I do need to do some investigative work, but just haven’t had the time this week to get near the car.
I’m sure I will get it sorted, but when thinking it through the loom was the only thing different, electronically, that has changed since I had the engine rebuilt which is what made me doubt the loom.

Morning Ray
A combination of work, lack of time and just being a bit fed up with it all has led to little investigation on this.
Been and had a poke about this morning and the full near side bank of cylinders are not firing at all. Whipped the plugs out and gave them a clean, but no different.
Might have to borrow your tester if the offer is still there? (You have mail!).
Any other ideas on this really welcomed? Could it be a timing thing?
Cheers

An electrical fault on the injector driver circuit would fit those symptoms exactly.I'd check whether you are getting power to the injectors and whether the ECU is grounding them. You could also measure the overall circuit resistance from the ECU connector to see how many injectors are actually connected.
