Guys - having never had the need to dwell in the general pump area, I needed to have a poke about as there was a mystery outpour of petrol ahead of the Silverstone gt500 which then vanished! Whilst looking i noticed a cut wire ( but it “looks like a home brew job”) and I’m not sure what that condenser looking thing is on the pump bracket to which the wire is cut? Is this a home modification of some kind - the wiring solder suggests so. Is it an earthing point of some kind?

Sorry if it’s obvious to the S massive, but it’s not to me.

The condenser might have been added if the pump was interfering with the radio. I don't have one on my pump. There should be just the two wires going to the pump.
Did the petrol spill happen just after filling up the tank to the brim? That happens to mine. I think it's trapped air in the tank bubbling up the filler neck and forcing a bit of fuel out of the overflow.

Thanks Joe. Bizarrely it seemed to happen on priming, but then stopped. I clearly need to revisit this when I get time at the weekend. At least it’s not the tank!

If the tank has been filled to capacity on a hot day it may even be simple thermal expansion as the cold fuel gets warmed up in the tank, fuel rail etc.

Also, think about replacing the jubilee clamp with something proper.
Like a hose clamp.

Your link shows a multitude of different pipe clamps but I'm guessing (and agree) it should be one of these? .......

wouldn't mind a better picture as there may be another issue but certainly the jubilee clip is NOT good on a fuel line, needs a proper clip. Also, if you have not checked that area, check that the flexible fuel pipe isn't badly cracked. If it is an original pipe it will have deteriorated, accelerated by modern fuels, and will need replacing.

Forgive my ignorance, but why is a jubilee clip no Good? 🤔

It doesn’t clamp the pipe equally all round the diameter of the pipe.
