Hi,

I am toying with the idea of possibly stripping the car and selling for parts as restoring it isnt proving viable and need to be sensible for once. I imagine there is demand on a number of the parts, has anyone stripped one before to sell?

Personally I'd suggest you'd be better off selling it complete as a restoration project. Otherwise you're going to be stuck with a load of unwanted bits and pieces.

Whats wrong with it that makes you think it’s not restorable.

Nothing that can't be sorted to be fair but weighing up potential spend going forward getting it to the standard I am after against just buying a fully restored example when they occasionally pop up. The car needs a full respray which is a big factor. Decisions decisions!

That sounds like a lot of work and mess and I agree you are likely to be left with a lot of bits for some time, and a car in bits just increases the space it takes up. Sell it as a project, someone with the time and ability might welcome it

I know people have stripped cars in the past but I'm surprised it makes any money? I would imagine a few "popular" bits will sell quite quickly but when did you last hear of anyone after a body tub (I cut one up and scrapped it, no one wanted it)? There's a reasonable market fot type 9 gearbox's, outside of TVR circles, but again it's very rare anyone comes on here or FB after an engine?

Sell as a project, if no interest or only silly offers then break it

What is it, S1, 2, 3 ?

Its an S2 Mike. Having slept on my rash decision last night I think i will probably carry on with the project for now and at least finish the areas i have started on to the standard i was aiming for. If i do decide to sell the car on at least the car will be in better shape than what i started with.

I have no idea what you have there but is it feasable to get to the point it would pass an MOT?

Road legal and MOT'd has got to be worth far more than a project?

It all generally works, i have driven it and is still in MOT. I currently have the back end stripped off but not a million miles from putting it back together which may get me motivated once done. The main reason i was thinking this was it may be more economical to offload what i currently have to save time and money overall and look for a more concourse one out there. Ultimately what i spend on an S2 over say 8-9k is never going to be recoverable compared to a well sorted S3 for a similar price.

If it’s got an MOT and is roadworthy then definitely sell complete, if you don’t want to carry on why not try selling as a going concern, sure there’s loads of people would love to take it on if the price is right, not everyone has the spare cash to buy a good example and would be up for the challenge.

Where are you Joe? I'm in Nottingham - if you aren't a million miles away I might be able to lend a hand if it's labour you are short of.

It's like any other big job, it's difficult to keep motivated unless you're having some good laughs during or in-between stints
